SG50 - What does it mean to you?

SG50 - What does it mean to you?

Soon Yean. 14 August 2015

With Independence on 9 August 1965, Singapore is 50 years old this year. Singaporeans celebrated the nation's birthday in bitter-sweet emotions for Mr. Lee Kuan Yew passed away on March 23rd this year and narrowly missed the celebration.

Many private and national events were held in the last 50 days leading up to the big party on 9th August.  This included the biggest National Day of Prayer (NDOP) held at the new Indoor Stadium on 5th July, organized by several churches including CEFC. Our CG participated in the ushering of the crowd on that momentous day.

Tonight the CG took some time today to reflect on what SG50 - the nation, the government, the people meant to them. Names are abbreviated:

RL: Wished to see more compassion in Singapore – we could pray more boldness and faith for this area in the nation.

JP: Importance of praying for families.

SW: Reminded him the importance of the next generation and to pray more for this area, especially now the next gen has more ideas what they expect in life. Pray they will be guided well and a new generation of wise leaders will emerge.

TT: The importance of prayer and not just to limit to the 50 days but we should continue with the exhortation. Tony is encouraged by the many contributions each member put in each day to exhort. Encouraged by Alice and How Giap’s story (below) and encouraged us to continue to BLESS.

AT: Encouraged us with the story of how her mother was fervent about prayer and she prayed for healing for her leg. Shared also how the non-believing neighbours invited them over and that their daughter works for a Christian missionary organisation. HG and Alice are praying if they should accept the invitation to be a board member.

LW: Reminded her to pray continually for the government and the next generation

YC: Pray for the government

CL: This is NOT home, truly, for us to be too rooted in and be too comfortable. We are on a journey to a permanent home. In the meantime, God places us here for a purpose and may call us elsewhere anytime - are we too rooted and after our own ambitions to pack up and go?

SY: Refreshing writings and the word Radical Discipleship comes to mind. Encouraged by How Giap and Alice, the 50 days impressed upon him that we should not be closed to mission trips.
